Studio Pottery Vases by Bryan Newman

£40–45

These stoneware vases by Bryan Newman sit firmly within the post-war British studio pottery tradition shaped by the legacy of Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada.

Newman’s work reflects this lineage through its emphasis on quiet form, functional clarity, and the expressive potential of glaze. Each vase is hand-thrown in stoneware and finished in matt layered coloured glazes, contrasted by rich tenmoku interiors - a high-iron glaze historically associated with East Asian ceramics.

Produced at Aller Pottery, a workshop Byran set up with his wife Julia in 1966, these pieces embody the restrained, tactile aesthetic that defines late 20th-century British ceramics.

Offered as a pair or individually, these work equally well as vases, small holders or as sculptural objects.
